About the Lab

Most RV repair sites are one of two things: dealer-owned services trying to funnel you into their shop, or thin directories with fake reviews and stale data.

RV Repair Lab is neither.

We’re the independent guide that walks you through what’s actually wrong with your rig, tells you what the fix should cost, and — when you need a pro — connects you with mobile techs and shops that know what they’re doing.

Diagnose it. Fix it. Or find someone who will.

Why This Exists

The RV service industry is a mess.

Dealership service bays run six to twelve weeks behind. Mobile techs are booked out and hard to find. Camping World reviews read like a hostage situation. Every extended warranty has an asterisk. And when your slide-out gives up in a Walmart parking lot at 6pm, the last thing you want is to click through three ad-choked directories to find “RV Repair Guy” whose phone goes to voicemail.

Meanwhile, the how-to content online is either behind a subscription paywall or written by SEO farms who’ve never crawled under a park model.

We built RV Repair Lab because RV owners deserve better than that.

What We Actually Do

Three lanes, all under one roof:

Diagnose it. Every common RV failure — refrigerator won’t cool, slide-out won’t retract, roof is leaking, awning ripped — has a diagnostic guide walking you through the likely causes in plain English. Match your symptom to the cause before you spend a dime.

Fix it. For the repairs you can handle yourself, we publish step-by-step how-to’s with video, tool lists, and honest difficulty ratings. If it’s a job for a pro, we tell you that too — no ego, no upselling you a DIY course you shouldn’t be taking.

Find someone who will. For everything else, we run the most detailed independent directory of mobile RV techs and independent shops in the country. Every listing filters by RV type, systems serviced, certifications, extended warranty acceptance, and service area. Reviews are real, tied to verified customers, and can’t be bought or hidden.

Underneath it all: real 2026 cost data on every major repair, so you know before you call whether a $2,400 estimate is fair or a rip.

Who We Are

RV Repair Lab is run by John, an RV owner, a retired commercial contractor and current digital agency owner. Three decades of jobsite work — metal stud, drywall, superintendent, running crews — teaches you how service work actually happens. It also teaches you what a good tradesperson looks like versus one who’s going to bleed you dry.

We’re not RV industry veterans. We’re contractors and content people who got tired of watching RV owners get taken advantage of by an industry that hasn’t updated its playbook since 1998.

Our writing team includes ASE-adjacent techs, factory-trained mobile RV specialists, and a rotating panel of shop owners who tell us what’s really happening in their bays. When we publish cost data, it’s built from real 2026 invoices — not guesses.

The Lab-Vetted Standard

Any tech or shop can list on RV Repair Lab for free. That’s the baseline.

Lab-Vetted is different. It’s the badge we award to techs and shops who meet an explicit standard:

  • Documented certifications (RVIA, RVDA, NRVIA, or factory)
  • Verified business insurance
  • Written estimates and work warranties standard
  • Minimum rating threshold with review verification
  • No unresolved complaints on record
  • Passed our reference-check process with recent customers

Not every good tech is Lab-Vetted — some great mobile techs never bothered with certifications and we respect that. But if you see the Lab-Vetted badge, we’ve done the checking so you don’t have to.

We charge nothing for the badge. Being Lab-Vetted doesn’t buy better placement in search results, and no shop can pay to appear over a higher-rated one.

Our Independence Pledge

We tell you this upfront because too many RV information sites hide it:

  • We are not owned by a dealer. No Bish’s, no Camping World, no La Mesa, no anyone. If a dealer buys us someday, we’ll tell you the day it happens.
  • We don’t take a cut from repairs booked through the directory. If you find a tech through us and pay them $800 for a slide-out fix, we get $0 of that. Full stop.
  • We don’t hide search results. Every listing that matches your filter shows up. No pay-to-suppress-competitors games.
  • Reviews can’t be bought, altered, or removed. Shops get the option to publicly respond to a review. They don’t get the option to make it disappear.
  • We won’t recommend a product we haven’t used or tested. If we say a moisture meter works, we bought it and used it.

How We Make Money

Transparency on this because trust matters:

  • Featured listings. Shops and techs can pay for enhanced profiles and better metro-page placement. Featured status is marked clearly. It doesn’t affect rankings inside filtered search — only visibility outside of it.
  • Affiliate revenue. When we link to an extended warranty, an insurance quote, a moisture meter on Amazon, or a mail-forwarding service, we may earn a commission. We only recommend products and services we’d actually use ourselves.
  • Newsletter sponsorships. Occasional relevant sponsors in the newsletter, clearly labeled.
  • Agency services. Our sister company, HardHat Digital, helps RV service businesses build websites, generate reviews, and manage their online presence. It’s an entirely separate business from the directory. Shops that hire HardHat don’t get better directory placement.

That’s it. No hidden data sales, no dark-pattern lead-gen sales, no editorial trades for advertiser access.
